BBC Worldwide Signs Co-Pro Pact with Masterpiece

NEW YORK: BBC Worldwide America has firmed up a co-production agreement with Masterpiece in the U.S. for the drama The Paradise, set in the Victorian era, and the film The Lady Vanishes, an adaptation of the classic Hitchcock thriller.

The Paradise is set within Britain’s first department store, telling the rags-to-riches story of a young girl who falls in love with the glamour of the modern world. The Lady Vanishes will be adapted from the 1930s thriller about a woman who is traveling across Europe by train and becomes entangled in a menacing plot.

Matt Forde, the executive VP of sales and co-productions at BBC Worldwide America, said: “The Paradise and The Lady Vanishes offer unique and thrilling stories that are a terrific complement to the popular programming lineup on Masterpiece on PBS. They are both superbly crafted with sky-high production values which are sure to enthrall and mesmerize audiences in the U.S.”

"These programs are the latest in a long line of beautifully-made, award-winning co-productions. The BBC has been our trusted partner, and fellow public-broadcaster, for over 40 years," added
Rebecca Eaton, Masterpiece’s executive producer.
