BBC America Commissions First Original Comedy

NEW YORK: BBC America has ordered its first original comedy series, Almost Royal, about two young British aristocrats who make their first trip to the U.S.

Almost Royal, a 7×30-minute series, is produced by Burning Bright Productions with Clive Tulloh (Eddie Izzard: Marathon Man, The Dame Edna Treatment) as executive producer and Seamus Murphy-Mitchell (Bug, Friday Night with Jonathan Ross) as series producer. The series is set to premiere on June 21 at 10 p.m. It stars Ed Gamble and Amy Hoggart as British heirs to a large country estate who enjoy privileged lives as distant descendants of the British Royal Family. They have agreed to have a camera crew follow them on on an unofficial royal tour of the U.S.

BBC Worldwide will have the international distribution rights.
