AOL & NBCU Strike Video Content Partnership

NEW YORK: AOL and NBCUniversal have signed a wide-ranging agreement that covers distribution and development of both exclusive and non-exclusive content.

Starting this summer, NBCU video clips and segments from some entertainment and news programming will be made available to stream on AOL On, the AOL On mobile app and across 16 OTT platforms that carry the AOL On app. This content will come from such outlets as Bravo, E!, Esquire, Oxygen, Syfy, Telemundo, MSNBC and USA.

The two are also partnering to explore AOL brand experts to appear on certain NBCU linear TV properties. They are also planning to co-develop and co-produce original online video series for the NBCUniversal and AOL platforms. This could potentially include creating weekly live programming together.

“AOL was an early leader in digital video, doubling down on both premium original video content and the creation of an open video platform that focuses on deep economics of scale within an increasingly converging media ecosystem,” said Bob Lord, the president of AOL. “Key to this strategy are partnerships with some of the world’s most renowned media companies, and we are thrilled to be able to put NBCUniversal’s premium video programming front and center for AOL multiplatform users.”

"Our networks create some of the biggest water-cooler conversations and strongest brand connections in the industry and we are excited to bring them to AOL, a leader in the digital space," added Linda Yaccarino, the chairman of advertising sales and client partnerships at NBCU. "This collaboration gives our advertising partners more ways to reach those key audiences at greater scale in more meaningful ways."
