Aereo Continues Expansion Ahead of Supreme Court Hearing

NEW YORK: As it awaits its time in front of the Supreme Court, Aereo is continuing to increase its distribution, with its latest launch, on Google's Chromecast, set for May 29.

The cloud-based antenna and DVR technology will be Google Cast Ready next month, allowing current members and consumers residing in active Aereo markets to be able to download (or update) the Aereo app for Android in the Google Play store, including support for Chromecast. In order to use Aereo’s technology with Chromecast, consumers must download the Aereo app for Android in the Google Play store. Users then need to set up their Chromecast device with their television; launch Aereo and the “cast” icon will appear in the app.

“The way people watch and experience television is changing and Google is a pioneer in providing consumers with more choice and flexibility in how they access and experience that media,” said Chet Kanojia, Aereo's CEO and founder. “We’re excited that Aereo will be Google Cast Ready this May. Consumers deserve more options and alternatives in how they watch television and our team is committed to providing consumers with the best experience possible using Aereo’s innovative cloud technology.”

The controversial service is set to appear before the Supreme Court on April 22.
