HBO, Netflix Lead Critics’ Choice Awards Nominations

HBO and Netflix have each notched up 20 nominations for the 24th annual Critics’ Choice Awards, while The Americans, The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story and Escape at Dannemora topped the list of most-nominated series.

The Americans (FX), The Assassination of Gianni Versace and Escape at Dannemora (Showtime) landed five nominations each. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon) and Sharp Objects (HBO) follow with four each. A Very English Scandal (Amazon), Atlanta (FX), Barry (HBO), Better Call Saul (AMC), Genius: Picasso (National Geographic), The Good Place (NBC), Homecoming (Amazon), Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert (NBC), Killing Eve (BBC America), One Day at a Time (Netflix) and The Tale (HBO) each received three nominations.

Up for best drama series are The Americans, Better Call Saul, The Good Fight, Homecoming, Killing Eve, My Brilliant Friend, Pose and Succession.

The best actor contenders for drama series are Freddie Highmore for The Good Doctor, Diego Luna for Narcos: Mexico, Richard Madden for Bodyguard, Bob Odenkirk for Better Call Saul, Billy Porter for Pose, Matthew Rhys for The Americans and Milo Ventimiglia for This Is Us.

The nominees for best actress in a drama are Jodie Comer for Killing Eve, Maggie Gyllenhaal for The Deuce, Elisabeth Moss for The Handmaid’s Tale, Sandra Oh for Killing Eve, Elizabeth Olsen for Sorry For Your Loss, Julia Roberts for Homecoming and Keri Russell for The Americans.

The best comedy series nominees are Atlanta, Barry, The Good Place, The Kominsky Method, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Middle, One Day at a Time and Schitt’s Creek.

For comedy series, the nominees for best actor are Hank Azaria for Brockmire, Ted Danson for The Good Place, Michael Douglas for The Kominsky Method, Donald Glover for Atlanta, Bill Hader for Barry, Jim Parsons for The Big Bang Theory and Andy Samberg for Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

The actress nominees for comedy series are Rachel Bloom for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Rachel Brosnahan for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Allison Janney for Mom, Justina Machado for One Day at a Time, Debra Messing for Will & Grace and Issa Rae for Insecure.

In regard to limited series, the nominees are A Very English Scandal, American Vandal, The Assassination of Gianni Versace, Escape at Dannemora, Genius: Picasso and Sharp Objects. The crop of nominees for best movie made for TV are Icebox, Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, King Lear, My Dinner with Hervé, Notes from the Field and The Tale.

On the performance side, for limited series or TV movie, the actor nominees are Antonio Banderas for Genius: Picasso, Darren Criss for The Assassination of Gianni Versace, Paul Dano for Escape at Dannemora, Benicio Del Toro for Escape at Dannemora, Hugh Grant for A Very English Scandal and John Legend for Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.

Nominated actresses for TV movie or limited series are Amy Adams for Sharp Objects, Patricia Arquette for Escape at Dannemora, Connie Britton for Dirty John, Carrie Coon for The Sinner, Laura Dern for The Tale and Anna Deavere Smith for Notes from the Field.

The winners will be revealed at the Critics’ Choice Awards gala, broadcast live on The CW on January 13 at 7 p.m.

Critics’ Choice Awards are bestowed annually by the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) and Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA).
