STOCKHOLM: Bollyvod, a VOD service from Voddler that features the latest movies and shows from leading Bollywood studios, is starting its U.S. rollout as of today.

Voddler secured more than 100,000 hours of programming for the service, including content from Zee Entertainment, Reliance, Eros International, UTV Motion Pictures and Sony Music. The service, which has free and subscription offerings, will roll out across the U.S. over the coming months. Bollyvod is available for use on Internet-connected devices. Bollyvod’s global streaming capacity comes from Voddler’s peer-to-peer cloud Vnet, which enables content owners to securely access mass markets online, even in low bandwidth regions.

Marcus Bäcklund, Voddler’s CEO, said: "In many countries, Bollywood fans are a niche audience. On a global scale, though, they are a mass market crying out for Indian cinema and TV shows. Bollyvod gives people exactly what they want: good content truly anywhere and anytime, with an extraordinary quality of service. In doing this, Bollywood crushes piracy. So while Hollywood struggles with its digital transition, Bollywood will generate new revenue and make piracy streaming irrelevant, thanks to one global disruptive move. When will we see a Hollywood doing this?"

He continued: "With Vnet, Bollyvod users actually help each other watch videos. In fact, the concept of decentralized distribution has primarily been used by pirates. Here, we take that idea, but working together we all create a new part of the Internet, focused on delivering videos, securely and safely. Consumers benefit, content owners benefit, even telecom operators benefit. You can see why Bollywood believes in Bollyvod."
