eOne & El Rey Network Arrange Distribution Pact

LOS ANGELES/TORONTO: Entertainment One (eOne) has firmed up an exclusive worldwide TV distribution deal with El Rey Network to represent the channel's growing slate of original programming.

The English-language cable network, launched in December 2013, was created by filmmaker Robert Rodriguez and FactoryMade Ventures. The first project under El Rey's new deal with eOne is the upcoming series Matador, a scripted thriller from the writing team of Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. The drama is set to premiere this summer.

The agreement also sees eOne handling the DVD and EST rights in the U.S. and Canada for the supernatural crime saga From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, which premieres March 11. The show is based on the film of the same name.

“With its penchant for working with highly-talented, renowned creative partners, Robert Rodriguez’s vision for captivating, finely curated content with big production value, and Scott Sassa’s seasoned expertise, El Rey is poised to swiftly become one of the top destinations on television,” said John Morayniss, the CEO of eOne Television. “We are thrilled to establish this partnership, expand the global reach of their top-notch content and deliver the most innovative television to our partners worldwide.”

Scott Sassa, vice chair of El Rey Network, added: “We are thrilled to work with eOne on El Rey’s most prized content—shows that will resonate globally and break the mold in every way. We couldn't have chosen a better partner—eOne relishes the opportunity to represent high-quality content and their recent alliance with AMC and Sundance Channel underscores why they are leading the charge in today's international distribution game."
