LOS ANGELES/TORONTO/PARIS: Entertainment One (eOne) has secured the U.S. distribution rights for Special Forces from StudioCanal.

eOne has the rights to Special Forces in all media in English, French and Spanish, and it has already sold to Canada, Latin America, Russia, Spain, Scandinavia, Poland, Japan, Germany, Australia, Greece, Turkey, the Middle East and South East Asia. The film will hit U.S. theaters in spring 2012.

Special Forces is about a French journalist who is kidnapped by the Taliban. It is directed by Stephane Rybojad, set in Afghanistan and stars Diane Kruger (Troy, Mr. Nobody, Inglourious Basterds) and Djimon Hounsou (Amistad, Gladiator, Push). It was shot in Tajikistan, Djibouti and the French Alps.

“We are delighted to be partnering again with our close friends at eOne and to be contributing to their exciting launch into U.S. theatrical distribution,” said Harold Van Lier, the executive VP of International Sales at StudioCanal. “It makes so much sense for eOne to enter the U.S. market right now and we hope Special Forces will prove them right.”

“We’re thrilled to bring this gripping action thriller to U.S. audiences,” commented Dylan Wiley, the VP of theatrical marketing and distribution at eOne Films US.

“StudioCanal and eOne have been longtime partners and we’re very pleased to extend our successful relationship into the U.S. theatrical market with this standout film,” added David Reckziegel, the president of eOne Films North America.
