Zee Plus, the co-production and development arm of Zee Entertainment Enterprises, is working on The Lion’s Last Roar, its latest co-production with Talesmith.

The documentary series, filmed in 4K, explores lion conservation. Told across two hour-long episodes, The Lion’s Last Roar features unprecedented access, in-the-moment action and observational documentary filming to present all sides of the debate about trophy hunting.

TVF International is attached as the international distributor.

Sunita Uchil, chief business officer of Zee Plus, said: “We are pleased to partner once again with Talesmith for The Lion’s Last Roar. They bring extraordinary expertise into this sensitive & pertinent subject of conserving lions. Outside Africa, India is the only other country where lions can be seen in their natural habitat. The Gir Forest offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience this wildlife in its most raw, beauteous form. We are also pleased to announce TVF as our international distribution partner for this series.”

Martin Williams, founder of Talesmith and executive producer, added: “We’re thrilled to be working with Zee Plus on this hard-hitting series. Lions are symbolic of our ongoing struggle with conserving nature and the crisis that humanity has created. This kind of cutting-edge storytelling is in Talesmith’s DNA.”

Julian Chou-Lambert, acquisitions manager at TVF International, said: “As we approach our 40th anniversary, we at TVF have a long track record of successfully distributing blue-chip and topical wildlife from across the world, and so we’re delighted to be partnering with Zee Plus and Talesmith, who bring an incredible breadth of experience to this important story. Lions are among the world’s most magnificent endangered creatures, and understanding their complex relationship with humans is key to preventing their extinction. The in-depth investigation into this relationship and the comparisons between the conservation efforts trialed with African lions and Asiatic lions in India make this a unique program, and we are very excited to present it to our buyers at MIPCOM and beyond.”
