Crime+Investigation has set the premiere of the two-part documentary The Eunuch Maker, hosted by Marcel Theroux, for early 2025.

The documentary explores the story of Marius “Theo” Gustavson, known as the Eunuch Maker, who was reported to be running a financial business from his home in Finsbury Park by operating and live streaming sexual organ removal surgeries online in front of thousands of viewers. Theroux delves into why people were motivated to join the community and speaks to both the victims and consenting individuals.

Nine individuals were charged related to the case in March 2023.

The Eunuch Maker is executive produced by John Farrar for Future Studios. Sam Miller is the series director. Blue Ant is handling distribution.

The documentary will premiere on Crime+Investigation in early 2025 and will later air in the Benelux region.

“We have been working closely with the great team at Future and with Marcel to bring to life this uniquely challenging and demanding criminal investigation and subject matter,” said Dan Korn, VP of programming at Hearst Networks EMEA.

“This is one of the most complex and extraordinary stories we’ve ever undertaken,” Farrar commented. “Born out of two years of sensitive and meticulous research, Marcel’s immersive journey promises to deliver the shocking reality behind the tabloid headlines, whilst offering a forensic insight into the motivations of the Eunuch Maker.”

Theroux added, “This is a jaw-dropping story that raises timely questions about body modification, the limits of consent and gender identity. It starts with a crime that beggars belief, then takes the viewer into the hidden world of voluntary eunuchs, one of the oldest and most marginalized minorities in human history.”
