Quintus Studios has commissioned the digital-first docuseries Pirate Coasts for its flagship AVOD channel Free Documentary.

The series investigates the historical roots of piracy in Southeast Asia and examines the factors driving modern maritime crime. It also delves into the organizations and initiatives aimed at improving security and reducing piracy and hijacking incidents.

The pilot episode, “Terror on the Asian Seas,” has secured German free-to-air broadcaster WELT as a presale partner and forms part of Quintus Studios’ ongoing strategy to produce high-quality factual content for both digital and linear distribution.

Pirate Coast is being produced in-house by development and production executive Frederick Gillingham.

“Maritime piracy is still a prevalent issue in some parts of the world, and this pilot episode provides an unfiltered insight into those who are doing it and those who are suffering because of it,” said Adam Jacobs, creative director of Quintus Studios, who commissioned the pilot and is also an executive producer. “This is another premium production from Fred, who secured great access to those involved in this illegal activity.”
