PBS has acquired the U.S. domestic broadcast and digital rights to FilmRise’s original series Icon: Music Through the Lens, produced in partnership with Universal Music Group’s Mercury Studios.

Icon: Music Through the Lens takes viewers on a ride through the world and history of music photography, exploring the fascinating lives and experiences of those who have documented popular music in images. The series spotlights studio portraits, record sleeves, music magazines, live shows, exhibitions, social media, coffee table books and the fine art world. Beginning this summer, PBS will present each of the six hour-long episodes weekly as part of its summer prime-time lineup.

FilmRise CEO Danny Fisher said: “FilmRise and our production partner at Mercury Studios are thrilled that the Icon documentary series will be presented to U.S. audiences on PBS. This is a comprehensive and definitive series that will appeal to all lovers of music and photography and we feel that the series uniquely and distinctly immerses the viewer in the culture and history of this fascinating art form.”
