Video Interview with Origins’ Jason Silva

TV Real’s Mansha Daswani met with host Jason Silva to discuss Origins, how he brought his own digital-media aesthetic to the show and what he was surprised to learn along the way while making the series.

Jason Silva is often described as a modern-day philosopher as well as a futurist. Audiences around the world came to know Silva as the host of the wildly popular Brain Games on National Geographic. Those who have dug a little deeper may have seen his Shots of Awe YouTube series, which conveys daunting scientific pursuits in digestible, easy-to-understand bite-size videos. Silva is now hosting Nat Geo’s Origins: The Journey of Humankind, an eight-episode series that explores the beginnings of inventions and innovations that have shaped our world today.

Origins, which was launched to the global market at MIPTV by FOX Networks Group Content Distribution, delves into topics such as fire, medicine, money, war, communication, shelter, exploration and transportation. It features a combination of scripted sequences, documentary moments, commentary from experts and mashups created by John Boswell, the artist known online as Melodysheep.

Silva touches on the responsibilities of factual filmmakers in this confusing time of “fake news” and “alternative facts,” and examines how brands are evolving in the digital age.

This interview is available with subtitles in Spanish, Mandarin and French.
