Escapade Media has confirmed broadcast deals for BIG vs SMALL with AMC Networks International Southern Europe’s channels Odisea/Odisseia for Spain and Portugal.

The documentary will open the Portuguese Surf Film Festival on July 23 and will then premiere on the Odisea/Odisseia channels on July 25. A deal was also inked for BIG vs SMALL with DPG Media in Belgium.

From filmmaker Minna Dufton, BIG vs SMALL is a documentary about the elite big wave champion surfer the “tiny fighter” Joana Andrade, who rides the powerhouse waves at Nazaré, Portugal. In the doc, Andrade reveals her fear of drowning and ultimately comes together with Finnish world champion free diver Johanna Nordblad for a most unusual training session.

Dufton said: “It has never been ‘just’ surfers or ‘just’ film festival audiences who respond to Joana Andrade’s story, but rather a global audience who connects so deeply with the human condition they see in the film. I am so proud to add Belgium, Spain and Portugal to our growing global BIG vs SMALL community!”

Natalie Lawley, managing director at Escapade Media, said: “BIG vs SMALL appeals to global audiences, as the film inspires viewers to face and overcome their fears. Whilst being very poignant at the moment, this film is timeless. Set against a cinematic backdrop of various countries, this incredible story is a must-see documentary.”
