LONDON: DRG has sold the six-part documentary Ocean Warriors from Vulcan Productions into several territories, including Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Spiegal TV acquired the rights for the docuseries in Germany, while Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific picked up the series for Australia and New Zealand. A separate deal with Discovery Europe will see Ocean Warriors broadcast across the Nordic region, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Ocean Warriors follows the dangerous work of young activists from around the world as they take risks to protect the oceans and confront lawbreakers. The activists include campaigners, scientists and investigative journalists who confront poachers and break up criminal networks of modern-day pirates.

The series, produced for Animal Planet in the U.S. by Peabody- and Emmy Award-winning producers Brick City TV, Paul Allen’s Vulcan Productions and Robert Redford’s Sundance Productions, puts a spotlight on stories of courage, conflict and change.

Adam Barth, DRG’s senior sales manager, who secured the Discovery Europe deal, commented, “Ocean Warriors is a fast-paced and dramatic series and doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to the dwindling health of our oceans. It almost looks and feels like a detective drama set at sea, but it is an important documentary series, unearthing some shocking practices. The teams at Sundance, Vulcan and Brick City TV should be very proud of what they have produced. I am delighted that the footprint of these new deals will greatly increase the worldwide audience for this significant series.”
