Bloomberg Sets Eco Series with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

The newest Bloomberg Media original series, An Optimist’s Guide to the Planet with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, showcases how people around the world are transforming the environment for the better.

From Cream Productions and Wildfire Television, the six-episode series sees Emmy nominee Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones) explore key environmental issues such as biodiversity, food sustainability and chemical pollution, as well as the people working to solve them.

Coster-Waldau will meet with people such as electric aircraft engineers in Vermont, Nashulai Conservancy elders in Kenya and women leading Mezcal production in Mexico.

The Canada-U.K. co-production is produced by Cream and Wildfire Television in association with Bloomberg, Bell Media and Ill Kippers Aps. It is executive produced by David Brady, Philip Clarke, Kate Harrison Karman, Coster-Waldau, Joe Derrick, Jennifer Baichwal and Nicholas de Pencier, with Patrick Cameron as co-executive producer. It is set to debut in 2024.

“The climate crisis impacts all of us; however, what I hope this show demonstrates is that we are not doomed,” Coster-Waldau said. “Together with Bloomberg, we will showcase the stories of incredible innovators, problem-solvers and dreamers from all walks of life and every corner of the world who are transforming our planet for the better. We believe that tomorrow can be better, and audiences will see that.”

Kyle Kramer, Bloomberg’s head of original programming, added, “This is our most ambitious project yet. We’re thrilled to collaborate with Nikolaj and our production partners to bring this vision to life. Our goal in launching Bloomberg originals is to inform, educate and inspire modern leaders across the globe through premium storytelling, and An Optimist’s Guide to the Planet epitomizes these values while taking us on an epic adventure.”
