BBC Earth to Launch Branded Block on Cignal’s One News Channel

Beginning Saturday, September 7, TV presenter and producer Daphne Paez is set to host a BBC Earth branded block on Cignal’s One News channel in the Philippines, showcasing the work of factual filmmakers from around the world.

The block will give Cignal’s viewers a taste of the natural-history and factual programs carried on the BBC Earth channel available to the platform’s subscribers. The block will screen three times a week, premiering one hour of BBC Earth programming each Saturday evening from 8 to 9 p.m., with replays on Sunday afternoons (4 to 5 p.m.) and Tuesday evenings (7 to 8 p.m.).

The first show to be screened in the slot will be Mediterranean with Simon Reeve, which sees the journalist embark on a four-part adventure around the region, discovering the extremes that lie beneath the touristy veneer.

Other programs that viewers can look forward to include: World’s Busiest Cities, giving viewers an inside look at some of the most crowded and chaotic cities on earth; Joanna Lumley’s Japan, which traces the Absolutely Fabulous star’s journey as she travels from the icy Siberian seas of the north to the subtropical islands of the south; and Without Limits–Vietnam, which follows six people with different physical abilities as they embark on an ambitious and emotional adventure through the diverse landscapes of Vietnam.

Paez said: “I’m honored and delighted to be presenting this unique offering on Cignal’s One News. These are some of the most inspiring, surprising and exciting shows on television and I know that viewers will be excited to explore some of the programs that can be seen on the BBC Earth channel.”

Sienna Olaso, VP for channels and content at Cignal TV, commented: “We have seen the popularity and impact of BBC Earth programs across the world, and are delighted to work with BBC Studios to serve a slice of BBC Earth programming to a wider audience on our main news channel.”

Myleeta Aga, senior VP and general manager of South and South East Asia at BBC Studios, added: “BBC Earth gives viewers a window into the wider world with passionate presenters, insightful documentaries and incredible footage from the natural world. I am pleased that we are able to work with our partners at Cignal TV to further extend our BBC Earth offering to Filipino viewers.”
