BBC Earth Science Debuts New Online Series

BBC Studios’ BBC Earth Science YouTube channel has launched an 18-part online series created by After Party Studios.

Revolving around space, the human body, weird science and more, the videos feature digital creators such as the rapping teacher Matt Green and social media science star Julia Ravey. Each video unpacks scientific phenomena like déjà vu, introduces audiences to organisms like zombie fungus and explores bold topics such as how sex works in space.

The 18-part YouTube series will be promoted across BBC Earth’s TikTok, Snap, Instagram and Facebook platforms as well.

The space content has debuted as part of Space Week across all BBC Earth Science platforms. The human body and weird science videos will follow at a later date.

The new 18-part series was commissioned by BBC Studios Digital Brands.

BBC Earth Science launched in 2012 as a home for content from the BBC’s science and space landmarks, including Ancient Earth and Solar System; the best of the BBC science archive; and original series such as Planet Fix, Fractured Reality and Universal Explorers.

“The creation of bold, hyper-engaging original content that enthralls and entertains online audiences is at the. heart of After Party Studios’ DNA,” said Jamie McDonald, head of originals at After Party Studios. “We are delighted to be working with BBC Studios again and incredible digital creators like Matt and Julia, who bring to life some of science’s most fun and fascinating facets.”

Chris Allen, director of digital content at BBC Studios, added, “We’re thrilled to be working with After Party Studios again, who’ve brought their characteristic flair to this exciting new stackable series, where you just might learning something! It’s also brilliant to welcome exciting new talent like Julia Ravey and Matt Green to the BBC Earth Science channel, giving our audience the benefit of their amazing science communication skills.”
