Discovery Channel and Science Channel have greenlit BattleBots for a sophomore season that will begin production in April and air this summer.
BattleBots features robots from across the globe fighting against each other in 3-minute bouts in the hopes of being named the champion. Bite Force, the BattleBots 2018 Champion, will return this year to defend its title against a new crop of competition. Perennial contenders Tombstone, Minotaur, Witch Doctor, Bronco, Bombshell and Yeti also will return to battle it out once more.
Each BattleBots match, inspired by Whalerock Industries’ killer robot combat sport, consists of two robots fighting in a single bout, with the goal of destroying or disabling their opponent. In the event there isn’t a knockout, a panel of judges decides the winner. Chris Rose and Kenny Florian will return to provide play-by-play commentary, while Faruq Tauheed is set to reprise his role as ring announcer.
“BattleBots is such a fun series and really resonated with both Discovery and Science viewers last year,” said Nancy Daniels, chief brand officer for Discovery and Factual. “We can’t wait to once again work with the amazing teams from Whalerock and BattleBots to make the new season a smashing success.”
