Former Optomen Exec Joins BBC Studios Factual Unit

LONDON: BBC Studios has appointed Jon Swain, who previously worked for Optomen Television, as head of its new Popular Factual production division.

In his new role, Swain will oversee the tentatively titled Popular Factual unit, which creates new and returning popular factual, lifestyle series and features across Bristol, Wales and Northern Ireland, including the newly revamped Crimewatch and Countryfile.

Throughout his career, Swain has developed and executive produced across a variety of factual-entertainment genres, including documentaries, features, lifestyle, food and live events. Among his credits are BBC Two’s Employable Me and Channel 4’s The F Word. Swain previously was director of development and head of formats at Optomen Television. He has also served as a development consultant for Optomen in the U.S.

Lisa Opie, the head of BBC Studios Factual, commented: “I’m delighted that Jon is joining BBC Studios to establish our new Popular Factual unit.
