discovery+ to Launch Anni Dewani Docuseries

Discovery has commissioned Anni: The Honeymoon Murder (w/t), a four-part series that delves into the high-profile investigation in South Africa.

The testimony-driven series features interviews with Anni Dewani’s family, the lead investigators, the legal teams and those involved, as well as archive footage and CCTV recordings. It will be available to stream on discovery+ from November 13.

Anni: The Honeymoon Murder is produced by Dragonfly.

In November 2010, British millionaire Shrien Dewani and his new Swedish wife, Anni, traveled for their honeymoon to Cape Town, where they were hijacked at gunpoint during a taxi ride, and the 28-year-old bride was later found dead of a gunshot wound. The truth about who was responsible for her death remained unclear for years.

Clare Laycock, senior VP of planning and insights and head of entertainment at Discovery, said: “We all remember this horrific story and the press coverage it generated. Anni Dewani lost her life in the most tragic of circumstances—but the full story hasn’t yet been told. Dragonfly has done an incredible job of reviewing the investigation and producing an enthralling narrative about her family’s search for answers.”

Richard Bond, managing director of Dragonfly, said: “It’s been a real privilege for Dragonfly to work so closely with Anni’s family, and their support allowed us to investigate her tragic story in forensic detail.”
