LOS ANGELES: More exhibition space has been lined up for this year's DISCOP Africa, which is set to take place at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg from November 5 to 7.

The increase comes in response to strong demand from previous years' events. The upcoming 9th edition is expected to attract more than 300 international sellers of finished TV programming, adaptation rights and branded TV channels. That amount is 20 percent higher than last year's figures.

"Africa is the world's fastest growing TV and online business marketplace. We estimate the continent to be worth half a billion dollars in revenue for the international content business, twice as much as just three years ago," commented Patrick Zuchowicki, the general manager of Basic Lead, which organizes DISCOP Africa.

DISCOP Africa 2014 will also be supporting Malaria No More, which aims to put an end to malaria-related deaths in Africa. There will be a presentation focused on the work of the nonprofit organization.

Gary Ginsburg, the executive VP of corporate marketing and communications at Time Warner Inc. and board member of Malaria No More, added: "Malaria No More's new partnership with DISCOP Africa presents the opportunity to leverage the power of media to raise awareness of malaria and save lives. Since 2000, the malaria mortality rate has fallen 51 percent among children under the age of five, but we still have our work cut out for us. As partners, we will encourage media leaders to sign on to support the campaign and rally their viewers to end malaria deaths."
