New Hi-5 Series Set for Australia’s Nine Network

SYDNEY: Kids’ entertainment group Hi-5 and Nine have partnered to bring the Hi-5 franchise back to Australian free TV, with a brand-new series slated to launch in 2017, marking the brand’s return to the network.

The partnership takes immediate effect and the new Hi-5 TV series for kids aged 2 to 5 will feature a fresh set and cast, with casting details to be announced soon. The original creative team of producers and writers are working on the new series. Hi-5 launched in Australia in 1998 with five performers who entertained children through music, movement, problem solving and play.

The musical group is now recognized worldwide, and the Hi-5 TV series is popular on Disney Junior in Asia.

Julie Greene, executive creative director and executive producer for Hi-5, said, “Historically Hi-5 has been one of the most recognized children’s television programs in Australia and we are delighted to be returning to our original home at Channel Nine and bringing our show back to our audience.”

Greene added: “We’re really excited to be working with Nine to develop a reinvigorated Hi-5 show. It will continue to offer the opportunity for active participation from children at home, with a sense that they are sharing in a dynamic, physically involving and sensitive exploration of their world, while also giving a platform to showcase a new lineup of ‘triple threat’ young Australian talent who can sing, dance and act.”

Amanda Laing, Nine’s managing director, commented, “We are thrilled to welcome home the globally successful Hi-5 franchise to Nine and this partnership reinforces our commitment to discovering new talent and showcasing quality children’s programming.”
