HALIFAX: DHX Media has received approval from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to permit broadcast advertising on its pay-TV network Family Channel, effective immediately.

Family Channel offers a variety of Canadian and acquired series, movies and specials. The network also features F2N, an entertainment destination that airs programming for teens after 9 p.m. Family Channel subs have access to the Family Channel app, Family OnDemand and Family Online, with which they can view popular movies and shows anytime, anywhere.

“DHX Media welcomes the CRTC’s decision to permit all specialty and pay-television services to broadcast advertising,” said Joe Tedesco, the senior VP and general manager of DHX Television. “It represents the next logical step in the implementation of the Let’s Talk TV decision, when genre protection was eliminated, and it ensures that pay and specialty channels will now be on a level field.”
