Maramedia, a Scottish indie that specializes in natural-history docs, is launching the children’s brand Marakids with the new CBeebies commission Gudrun the Viking Princess.

Filmed in Scotland, Gudrun the Viking Princess combines wildlife and landscapes with Viking history and a family of characters. The 20×5-minute preschool show aims to connect young viewers with the natural environment and teach them about the Viking period. A Gaelic version for BBC Alba is slated for broadcast next year.

Julia Bond, executive producer for CBeebies, commented: “We’re thrilled to be in production on this exciting new series mixing wildlife and landscapes, Viking history and a rich family of characters.

Gudrun the Viking Princess delivers a lovely narrative of building confidence and solving problems through interactions with the natural world, which we hope will inspire our CBeebies audience.”

“Bringing together children’s production and natural history in this unique new format is a dream combination and a commission we are thrilled to be embarking on for CBeebies,” added Nigel Pope, co-founder and creative director of Maramedia.
