Jetpack Distribution has acquired the international rights for seasons one and two of the preschool animated series Emmy & Gooroo.

A co-production between Barcelona-based Tomavision and China’s Leftpocket, Emmy & Gooroo premiered in China in 2017 on CCTV and more than 50 domestic broadcasters, as well as the video sharing platform Youku, which saw the series quickly become the most-watched show on the service, racking up 30 million views in two weeks. It also bowed internationally on VPRO in the Netherlands, VRT in Belgium, YLE in Finland, be Junior in the Middle East and North Africa, CJ ENM in South Korea and Paka Paka in Argentina.

Emmy & Gooroo is centered around the titular 5-year-old girl, the only human in a magical forest, and her best friend, a furry and huggable creature named Gooroo. Their world is full of animals and plants that can talk, dance and even cook, and every day the pair goes on new adventures.

The show, a former winner of the MIPJunior International Pitch Award, is supported by an international consumer products program which includes publishing, toys, home textiles, apparel, accessories and stationary.

Jetpack Distribution’s CEO, Dominic Gardiner, says: “We are delighted to welcome Emmy & Gooroo to the Jetpack catalog. It’s a hugely engaging show for preschoolers globally, containing the much-loved elements of magic, fantasy, forests and interesting and diverse characters. Its success has already been proven in both Asia and Europe and we’re looking forward to finding it more homes.”
