Hilda Leads Silvergate Slate Heading into MIPJunior

Silvergate Media is heading into MIPJunior with a slate packed full of new kids’ properties, including Hilda, which is earmarked for a 2020 debut on Netflix.

Hilda is a 2D-animated series that follows the adventures of a fearless blue-haired girl as she travels from her home in a magical wilderness full of elves and giants to a bustling city, where she meets new friends and mysterious creatures. The series is aimed at kids ages 6 to 11 and scooped up a Daytime Emmy Award this year.

Also on the bill is The Octonauts, an animated preschool series that follows a team of adventurers who explore new worlds, rescue sea creatures and protect the ocean. The franchise currently has two new 70-minute movies set to hit the Chinese market in 2020, before the IP will undergo a much-anticipated refresh in 2021, with a new spin-off series Octonauts: Above and Beyond. 156 11-minute episodes are currently in production and set for delivery from 2021 through 2024.

Silvergate has developed the classic Peter Rabbit character into a new CGI-animated series aimed at the preschool set. “The publishing background has a global reach, so the animated series builds on a world that audiences are likely to be familiar with but updates the stories for a modern audience,” said Ron Allen, Silvergate’s executive VP of commercial.

SuperKitties, meanwhile, is for kids 3 to 6 years old and follows the uplifting and exciting adventures of a team of felines trying to make the world a better place. Super Duper Molly Cooper is currently in development and targets 2- to 6-year-olds. Set in the South Pacific, the series follows the amazing adventures of Molly Cooper as she discovers the legendary Wonder Island thanks to her homemade flying machine. Innards is biology for preschoolers in a short-form series that teaches preschoolers all about the inner-workings of the human body through light-hearted and educational comedy. All three of the shows are debuting at MIPJunior.

Silvergate’s Made by Maddie (40×11 min. and 4 22 min. specials) has been commissioned by Nickelodeon and will premiere in fall 2020. The fashion-first series, set in the heart of NYC, features the titular character as a breath-of-fresh air heroine who inspires imaginative thinking, resourcefulness and positivity. Monkey with a Tool Belt is also available from Silvergate and is launching on Netflix in 2020.

“Strong storytelling, high-quality animation and original content are at the heart of everything we do here at Silvergate Media. We have one of our strongest creative and development pipelines ever,” said Waheed Alli, CEO. “It’s an extremely exciting time for the company.”

Allen added, “We’re delighted to be presenting Silvergate’s biggest production slate to date.”
