QUÉBEC: Frima and Groupe Média TFO have unveiled their plans to launch MaXi, a new Canadian animated series for 9- to 12-year-olds that is being designed first for smartphones and tablets.

MaXi will follow part-time Siamese teens Mara and Xilo as they explore the fantasy world of Vakarma. The voice cast of the French-language production includes Sarah-Jeanne Labrosse, Nicolas Charbonneaux, Mathieu Pichette, Martin Watier and Annie Girard. The 26×11-minute show will become available for iOS and Android devices, as well as in a linear format for TV. It is slated for release in spring 2017.

Glenn O’Farrell, Groupe Média TFO’s president and CEO, commented: “We are proud to support French-language innovation in the production of content for young people aged 9 to 12. The production of a series designed first for smartphones and tablets is in keeping with the digital shift we have begun at Groupe TFO. We hope to make use of these platforms in an innovative manner to serve the learning public in Ontario, Canada, and elsewhere in the world.”

Valérie Hénaire, Frima Originals’ VP of intellectual property, added: “In developing our first animation series with original content, we could not have found a better partner than Groupe Média TFO, which shares our vision of innovation in the production of interactive content and products. MaXi embodies Frima’s transmedia vision in creating intellectual property and incorporates the knowledge developed by our teams of the digital entertainment preferences of our publics. We now hope to spread this Franco-Canadian production through a distribution strategy in North America and internationally.”
