Mediapro Appointed Official VAR Provider for Super League Greece

Mediapro, which has joined forces with the innovation services company Visyon, has been selected to be the official VAR (video assistant referee) service provider for Super League Greece.

Mediapro’s VAR service is launching for the 2019-20 league championship season and will be centralized at HFF headquarters in Athens, with fiber optic connection to all Super League stadiums. Further, there are plans to use mobile VAR units to cover matches that will be played on the Greek islands.

Per the agreement, Mediapro will also provide training and certification for Greek referees and VAR operators during the months of May, June and July 2019, and will help to improve the Greek Football Federation’s (HFF) digital environment for the next five years. Greece-based In Digital has set up a digital environment based on an app that will allow referees and members of the federation to review and check video arbitration decisions as they occur.

Mediapro, which has been working with Visyon since 2014, is set to produce additional immersive audiovisual content with the company. Together, they have developed innovative content solutions such as the production of the world’s first live VR telecast of a soccer game, for the Arabian Gulf League. The two companies are already developing new business models for broadcasting immersive sports and entertainment and exploring the potential of 5G connectivity.
