Mediapro Hails Victory in Spanish Piracy Battle

MADRID: Following legal action by Mediapro, a Spanish court has ordered the website rojadirecta to stop enabling access to pirated streams of sporting events.

The court sided with Mediapro and other content owners in ruling that Puerto 80, parent company of rojadirecta, violated intellectual property rights.

In a statement, the Spanish media group said, “Mediapro considers that the judgment establishes an important precedent for the protection and defense of audiovisual rights, given that it equates the protection of audiovisual rights to copyright and represents a decisive step towards the eradication of piracy.”
