The Evolution of Home Entertainment Report 2020-2025, from the British Association for Screen Entertainment (BASE) and DEGI: The Digital Entertainment Group International, predicts U.K. category growth of £5.5 billion ($6.2 billion) by 2025.

The sector was worth £3.3 billion ($3.5 billion) in the U.K. in 2020 and £3.7 billion ($3.9 billion in 2021. The projection of £5.5 billion marks a rise of 114 percent on the pre-pandemic predictions.

The report also forecasts transactional cumulative consumer spend of £2.4 billion ($2.7 billion) by this time.

With the addition of box office and pay TV, the market is set to reach £12 billion ($12.8 billion) by 2025. The U.K. is estimated to represent 5 percent of the global market.

Liz Bales, chief executive of BASE and DEGI, said: “The evolution of Home Entertainment is in full force and this report is a bold vision of the category’s future. Built on the pillars of data and analysis that are the foundations of the BASE and DEGI agenda, it envisions a landscape of opportunity for the sector, with predicted U.K. category growth of £5.5 billion by 2025, a rise of 114 percent on the £2.5 billion predicted pre-pandemic, and a forecast transactional cumulative consumer spend of £2.4 billion by 2025. Where transactional formats expand to embrace premium, SVOD embraces AVOD, joined by FAST, all offering consumer choice and taking a share of growing consumer engagement.”
