Hypothetical, the Josh Widdicombe- and James Acaster-led UKTV Original comedy series, is set to be featured as one of the 2019 Edinburgh TV Festival’s big entertainment specials.

In the series, the pair pose tricky questions to a panel of four comic guests that are then awarded points on a seemingly random basis. For the Edinburgh TV Festival special, Widdicombe and Acaster will be posing their bizarre scenarios to a quartet of TV executives. This year’s Edinburgh TV Festival is set to run from August 21 to 23, with the Hypothetical panel taking place on the first day of the event.

Produced by Hat Trick Productions, Hypothetical has recently been renewed for a second season for UKTV’s Dave channel.

Widdicombe said: “I am so excited to be given the job of asking TV execs fun hypothetical questions. Makes a change from my usual questions, ‘Can we have a second series?’ and ‘Is that it for the wardrobe budget?'”

Acaster added: “If we thought fellow comedians gave us some corkers, I’m ready to dish out pocketfuls of points to our TV execs and revel in seeing them answer with some crackers.”

CEO and Festival Director Lisa Campbell commented: “Watching TV execs having to improvise and make up ideas on the spot is going to be pure entertainment. With two of the hottest comedy pairings, Josh and James at the helm, this is going to be a session not to be missed and one of the funniest things you will see!”
