LONDON: Emma Swain is taking a one-year break from her role as the BBC's controller of factual commissioning to take on the post of director of future commissioning, channels and online for BBC Television.

Swain will continue to be a member of the TV board and will report to Danny Cohen, the BBC's director of television. Alison Kirkham becomes acting TV controller for factual commissioning.

Swain said: “I am thrilled to be playing such a key role in shaping the future of the BBC, especially at such a time of great change but also of huge opportunity.”

Cohen added: “We are determined to keep delivering great content for audiences however they want to consume it. We face fascinating and complex questions about the balance between linear and digital delivery and how this may differ across various genres and audience groups. Emma is going to lead a crucial piece of work that will help determine how viewers discover and enjoy our content over the next decade. As a strong strategic thinker, she is perfect to lead this work.”
