LONDON: FremantleMedia has named Robin Chalmers, a former BBC Worldwide exec, as its new general counsel.

Chalmers is replacing Sarah Tingay, who’s retiring in September after 27 years with FremantleMedia. Once on board, Chalmers will report to Sangeeta Desai, the company’s COO/CFO. He’ll provide, and be responsible for, legal and commercial advice across the full range of businesses within FremantleMedia’s global operation, making sure the company executes its strategy within international legal frameworks. He’ll also supervise the protection of FremantleMedia’s intellectual property rights while protecting the business against legal risks.

Chalmers previously was the director of business and legal affairs for BBC Worldwide's regional business lines outside of North America. Prior to that, he worked in private practice.

“Robin brings extensive international experience, having worked across diverse operations in Asia, Australia, Europe and Latin America,” Desai said. “He combines expertise in the media sector—working across production, distribution, channel networks, home entertainment, advertising sales and digital platforms—with strong experience in corporate transactional activity such as M&A and joint ventures. I’m really looking forward to him joining the business where he will be an invaluable member of the senior management team.

“I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank Sarah Tingay for her contribution to the success of FremantleMedia in the many years that she has worked with us.”

Chalmers added: “I am delighted to be taking up the role of general counsel at FremantleMedia. Joining such a global creative force at such an exciting time is fantastic. I am very much looking to working with the team to support the success for the business going forward. I can’t wait to get started.”
