LONDON: Damian Kavanagh, who is currently the head of features and factual formats at Channel 4, has been appointed as the controller of BBC Daytime, with responsibility across BBC One and Two.

Kavanagh replaces Liam Keelan, the former BBC Daytime controller who is now the global editorial director at BBC Worldwide. Kavanagh takes up the new role later this year. He will report to Danny Cohen, the controller of BBC One. He will be responsible for all daytime commissioning across BBC One and BBC Two, as well as The One Show and 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on BBC Two.

Kavanagh said: “It was a very difficult decision to leave Channel 4 but BBC Daytime has a unique range of top quality content, from The One Show to programs like Father Brown, Pointless and Great Railway Journeys. I really can’t wait to get started.”

Cohen added: "Damian has a fantastic blend of editorial and scheduling experience and he’s a team player. I’m very certain that he will build on the great success of Liam Keelan and the talented Daytime team."
