LONDON: Pulse has established its own in-house film distribution arm, appointing Anna Sissons to kick start development of the new division.

Sissons will serve as the film distribution manager. She joins from Dogwoof, where she was an outreach coordinator.

The new division will function as a way to support the development and minimization of Pulse’s film catalogue by allowing it to control all aspects of film promotion and distribution. Plans include exploiting social media and leveraging brand partnerships as well as staging events around film releases.

Thomas Benski, the CEO of Pulse said: “Given the type of films we make, and the fact we are now financing a large proportion, we no longer see the value of enlisting a third party distributor. So setting up a distribution arm is a natural progression for Pulse’s development and growth as a media business.

“It is a strategic move to take control of the promotion and distribution of the slate of fan and event-based projects that Pulse has been producing for the last few years. These films require a different type of release strategy and we feel more suited to fully leverage those audiences.

“Pulse is using all its unique skill sets across branded entertainment, digital strategy, advertising and our extensive contacts in those areas. The aim is to create a new type of company, focused on audiences, that brings different techniques to film marketing and distribution.

“The initial release will be a continuation of our music based features, which have demonstrated that they have a real value at the box office and are perceived by audiences as real events. The full slate will be announced in the fall of 2012.

“We are delighted to have someone of Anna’s experience on board to help spearhead this new division and with plans to distribute third party films in the near future, she will be an invaluable asset to the team.”

Sissons added: “I have followed Pulse for many years with great interest so being able to join such an exciting, ambitious and fast-growing company is fantastic. Pulse has a superb industry reputation and an incredibly strong portfolio of films. I’m very much looking forward to working with them on the development of this new division and taking its properties worldwide.”
