MAINZ: ZDF Enterprises (ZDFE) has picked up the global distribution rights, excluding Scandinavia, for Viva Hate, a miniseries from Swedish production company Anagram Film & TV.

Set in Sweden during the early 1990s, Viva Hate tells the story of Daniel, who starts a band in an attempt to get more attention from his mother and winds up meeting the love of his life in the process. The 3×60-minute production stars Peter Andersson and Lena Endre. It was recently awarded the Prix Europa in the category of Best European TV Fiction Series or Miniseries.

A statement from the Prix Europa jury said: “This series opens its era to the audience with sharpness in storytelling and great production value. The audience gets to the skin of the main characters, we breathe together with them in excitement. The series brings us warm-hearted comedy with the rhythm and passion of fireworks. The magnificent script goes forward with extraordinary power and the directing adds great speed. The main character Daniel makes no compromises—it’s all or nothing in the fight for success as a punk-band in Gothenburg in the year 1991. The series starts like an earthquake—and just builds up from there.”

Fred Burcksen, the executive VP and COO of ZDF Enterprises, noted: “My sincere congratulations to the producers for winning the Prix Europa. We are very proud to be able to offer our clients this award-winning series as of immediately.”

Martin Persson, producer for Anagram Film & TV, added: “I think that Viva Hate is relevant to audiences everywhere in the world and I am very happy to have ZDF Enterprises on our side to make that happen.”
