SYDNEY/LONDON/MUNICH: SBS Australia has picked up the rights to The Last Panthers, a six-part crime drama commissioned by Sky and CANAL+.

Jointly distributed by STUDIOCANAL and Sky Vision, the drama starring Samantha Morton, Tahar Rahim, Goran Bogdan and John Hurt is produced by France's Haut et Court TV and the U.K.'s Warp Films. SundanceTV is on board as a co-producer on the show, which was filmed in Marseilles, Belgrade, Montenegro and London.

Marshall Heald, director of television and online content at the Australian broadcaster, noted: “The Last Panthers is a sophisticated contemporary thriller with a truly international cast that will grip you from the very beginning, a perfect addition to SBS's programming slate for 2016.”

The Last Panthers is a very ambitious story, epic in its scope while being contemporary and relevant to the reality of crime in Europe today,” said Katrina Neylon, executive VP of sales and marketing at STUDIOCANAL. “As Australia’s leading multicultural and multilingual broadcaster, we know that SBS Australia is just the right home for the series.”

Leona Connell, director of sales at Sky Vision, commented: “We are thrilled the series has generated so much attention from some of the world’s leading broadcasters. Producers Haut et Court TV and Warp Films have created a thrilling drama series with worldwide appeal. It has already made a big impact when it aired on Sky in the U.K., with critics describing it as 'superbly visceral and truly cinematic.'"
