ZDF Studios has picked up the global distribution rights, outside Scandinavia, for the new Danish crime drama Suplex.

The four-part miniseries sees the small town of Vesterløv turned upside down when a wrestling tournament takes a sinister turn after a talented young athlete is found brutally murdered. His respected coach Lars finds himself in the center of accusations and conspiracies, while Lars’ wife becomes dangerously entangled with the police chief.

Suplex is created by Adam August (Follow the Money, Darkland, Cry Wolf), Jens Dahl (Pusher, Sommer, Norskov) and Christian Bengtson (Krysantemum, My Different Ways, Lover). All four episodes are directed by Mads Mengel (My Different Ways). It is produced by Drive Studios and distributed in Scandinavia by Nordisk Film Distribution.

Jakob Cedergren (The Guilty, Submarino, A Matter of Trust) stars as Lars, while Josephine Park (The Venus Effect, Attachment, Doggystyle, The Nurse) plays his wife.

“The exceptional talent involved in Suplex—the writers, producers and cast—bring with them an abundance of creativity and years of experience,” said Yi Qiao, director drama at ZDF Studios. “I have no doubt that this drama will rank as a classic Nordic whodunnit to be enjoyed by audiences around the world.”

Maj-Britt Landin, head of scripted at Drive Studios, added, “Suplex is the ideal production for our studio. On the surface it is a crime drama, but its complex layers require subtlety, a challenge that our team thrives on and looks forward to delivering a series that will have viewers on binge mode. Adam, Jens and Christian have done a superb job in creating a script that is not only thought-provoking but keeps you in suspense until the very end when the real murderer is revealed.”
