S4C’s prison drama Bariau is returning for a second season on April 13.

The six-part drama series will be shown on the Welsh-language S4C channel and also be available to watch on BBC iPlayer and S4C Clic as a boxset. The first season of Bariau was broadcast on S4C in January 2024 and earned two BAFTA Cymru nominations—one for series producer Alaw Llewelyn Roberts and another for Annes Elwy, who won best actress.

Gwion Tegid stars as Barry, who is trying to balance his responsibilities as the prison wing’s new “top dog” and his personal relationships. The drama follows Barry as he confronts his childhood trauma in an attempt to move forward—but is he truly different from his violent father?

The series is written by Ciron Gruffydd (Hei Hanes, Pobol y Cwm) and directed by Griff Rowland (Holby City, EastEnders, Hollyoaks, Coronation Street).

The series is a Rondo Media production filmed at Llangefni’s Aria Film Studios on Anglesey.
