UKTV’s Alibi Picks Up Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries

UKTV has licensed a pair of dramas from all3media international, Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries and The Bad Seed, for its Alibi channel.

From Every Cloud Productions, creators of the global hit Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, the new 1960s-set spin-off Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries centers on the niece of iconic female sleuth Miss Fisher. UKTV will premiere the eight-part series on Alibi on April 10.

Alibi previously acquired all three seasons of the original Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. all3media international distributes both titles as part of its ongoing first-look deal with Fiona Eagger and Deb Cox’s Every Cloud.

South Pacific Pictures’ The Bad Seed, a thriller based on the books by best-selling author Charlotte Grimshaw, is a five-part drama that tells the story of two brothers from a dysfunctional family who have raised themselves up from the desperate days of their childhood, only to see their lives fall apart when one becomes a suspect in a murder. Produced for TVNZ in New Zealand, The Bad Seed will debut on Alibi in May.

Caroline Stephenson, senior VP for EMEA North at all3media international, said, “We’re delighted to build on our collaboration with UKTV and Alibi as we conclude this brand-new prime-time drama deal. Both titles are shining examples of the premium, globally appealing drama delivering right now from our production partners in Australia and New Zealand. The Miss Fisher brand is well-established around the world and Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries retains all the much-loved elements of the original series whilst introducing a wonderfully engaging new lead character and new adventures set in a vibrant and exciting era.”

UKTV Acquisitions Manager Charlie Charalambous said, “I am delighted to have worked with all3media international to bring two brand-new crime drama series to Alibi. Miss Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries is an exciting procedural spin-off to Alibi’s long-running period drama and The Bad Seed is a narrative, dark and brooding mystery thriller. Both shows are a perfect fit with Alibi’s brand, and I’m sure they’ll prove popular with viewers.”

Alibi’s channel director, Emma Ayech, added, “We are very excited to bring the next incarnation of Miss Fisher to our audiences, with Geraldine Hakewill sparkling as Phryne Fisher’s long-lost niece and heir to her detecting skills. The Bad Seed is a dark and gripping murder mystery that explores family tensions, politics and the secrets people hide. This series is the first to show a darker side to Alibi that will thrill crime drama fans.”
