The Seven, TBS & U-NEXT Team for Chiruran Adaptation

The Seven, TBS and U-NEXT have partnered for a live-action adaptation of the manga Chiruran: Shinsengumi Requiem, coming in spring 2026.

The adaptation stars Yuki Yamada, Nobuyuki Suzuki, Aoi Nakamura, Kanata Hosoda, Shuhei Uesugi, Kisetsu Fujiwara, Yosuke Sugino, Shuntaro Yanagi, Shuto Miyazaki and Hihio Iwanaga. The series is helmed by The Seven’s Akira Morii (Alice in Borderland), who is chief producer. Kazutaka Watanabe (NHK’s Onna Jōshu Naotor) is directing.

The writing team includes Masaaki Sakai (Cold Case; Small, Slow but Steady). Additional producers are Mamoru Inoue and Kazuya Shimomura.

The live-action adaptation will depict the lives of the Shinsengumi, the strongest samurai group whose high-speed sword-fighting has been praised as the fastest in history.

The project will air on TBS’s terrestrial network in the spring of 2026 and will exclusively stream on U-NEXT.

“The Shinsengumi members depicted in Chiruran are a group of truly unique and individualistic figures,” Morii said. “We gathered a cast who can fully unleash their power and truly live their roles for each of these characters. During the first day of filming at the Shieikan, Yamada Yuki, as Hijikata, completely captured the hearts of everyone there with his performance. Some shed tears, others were filled with excitement, and our Shinsengumi literally became one team.”
