Further details and casting have been revealed for The Reckoning, the forthcoming factual drama by ITV Studios for the BBC.

From writer Neil McKay (Four Lives, Appropriate Adult, The Moorside, Mo, See No Evil) and executive producer Jeff Pope (Four Lives, The Moorside, Appropriate Adult), The Reckoning traces the life of Jimmy Savile. It is slated to broadcast this fall on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

For decades, Jimmy Savile lived as one of the U.K.’s most influential celebrities. Following his death, revelations of his extensive abuse toward his victims were brought to light. Savile had used his involvement in organizations such as the BBC, hospitals, prisons and charities to legitimize himself, forging friendships in show business, politics, journalism, the Catholic Church and the royal family to cement his position.

Steve Coogan (Stephen, Philomena, Stan & Ollie) is set to portray Savile in the series. The drama’s cast also includes BAFTA Award winner Gemma Jones (Marvellous, Gentleman Jack), Siobhan Finneran (Happy Valley, Time), Mark Lewis Jones (Outlander, Chernobyl) and Mark Stanley (Happy Valley, White House Farm).

Interviews with four survivors of Savile who have contributed to The Reckoning are to be included in the series. The drama also aims to draw on wide-ranging research and published accounts.
