STOCKHOLM: MTG Studios has commissioned a new ten-part suspense thriller, The Lawyer, which will premiere exclusively on the Nordic video streaming service Viaplay and on TV3 in Sweden and Denmark.

The best-selling author and lawyer Jens Lapidus (Easy Money), together with Hans Rosenfeldt (The Bridge) and Michael Hjorth (Sebastian Bergman), is behind the idea for The Lawyer. Alexander Karim (Tyrant, Zero Dark Thirty) stars in the drama, which follows the dangerous descent of Swedish defense lawyer Frank Nordling into the Copenhagen underworld.

Nicklas Wikström Nicastro (A Man Called Ove) and Joakim Hansson (Johan Falk) will produce the series for SF Studios Production. STUDIOCANAL will handle international distribution.

Jakob Mejlhede, MTG’s executive VP and head of programming and content development, said: “Copenhagen is often called the world’s happiest city—but not for Frank Nordling, a man torn between grief and revenge. We are very glad to work with the most talented producers and actors on The Lawyer as MTG continues our journey to become the Nordic region’s leading producer of original content.”

Karim commented: “I knew straight away that this was a once-in-a-lifetime role. It’s a privilege to take on such a complex character in a nuanced human drama paired with high-adrenaline action.”

Wikström Nicastro added: “We’ve brought together fantastic talents and now we’re going to create something truly special. Working with Viaplay and TV3 for the first time is inspiring.”
