LONDON: STUDIOCANAL is launching the Swedish-French drama Midnight Sun at MIPCOM.

A Canal+/SVT co-production, the thriller is created by the producing team Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein (Bron/Broen). It is based on an idea by Henrik Jansson-Schweizer and Patrick Nebout. Actors Leïla Bekhti, Gustaf Hammarsten and Sofia Jannok, alongside creators Mårlind and Stein, and producers Olivier Bibas and Stefan Baron, will be in Cannes to help launch the series.

The STUDIOCANAL slate also includes Below the Surface, from SAM Productions. The eight-part crime thriller was produced for Denmark’s Kanal 5. From RED Production Company, Paranoid launched on ITV1 last week. It comes from writer and creator Bill Gallagher. Crazyhead, meanwhile, is a new horror/comedy from the creator of Misfits, Howard Overman. The six-parter was produced by Urban Myth Films for Channel 4 in association with Netflix.

Katrina Neylon, the executive VP of sales and marketing at STUDIOCANAL, said, “With seven production companies now in our group, all with the remit to develop and deliver wide-reaching and bold content, along with our strong relationships with third party producers, we have established a constant flow of extraordinary series to offer our clients. And, as the global hunger for high-quality scripted material continues, we are delighted to arrive at MIPCOM with four shining examples of channel-defining dramas. Each one has universal appeal through authentic, relevant and most importantly, intriguing, storytelling, set in very different parts of the world with thought-provoking characters and dynamic plots.”
