Picnic at Hanging Rock, Tin Star Land on Amazon U.S.

Amazon Prime Video in the U.S. has further expanded its international scripted lineup, clinching deals to bring Picnic at Hanging Rock and Tin Star to its subscribers.

Tin Star is a 10×60-minute revenge thriller from Rowan Joffe for Sky Atlantic. It stars Tim Roth and Christina Hendricks, and is being produced by Kudos. Amazon will bring the drama to U.S. audiences later this year. The show was acquired from Endemol Shine International and Sky Vision.

In a joint statement, Cathy Payne, CEO of Endemol Shine International, and Jane Millichip, the managing director of Sky Vision, noted, “Tin Star is an emotionally charged, fast-paced thriller. Rowan Joffe’s highly original scripts and story have secured an extraordinary cast led by Tim Roth and Christina Hendricks, and we are delighted that U.S. audiences will be able to experience this visceral, thrilling piece of television via Prime Video.”

“We are thrilled to be adding Tin Star to Prime Video in the U.S. this fall,” said Brad Beale, the VP of worldwide TV content acquisition. “We believe that the show’s intriguing story, coupled with a world-class cast, will resonate with our Prime members in the U.S.”

The six-part Picnic at Hanging Rock, a reimagining of Joan Lindsay’s Australian novel, stars Natalie Dormer as English headmistress Mrs Hester Appleyard. It focuses on the mysterious disappearances of three schoolgirls and one teacher on Valentine’s Day 1900, and was commissioned by Foxtel from FremantleMedia Australia for a 2018 broadcast.

Amazon will be the exclusive U.S. home for the production. Caroline Kusser, the senior VP of sales and distribution for FremantleMedia International in North America, noted, “The stylish reimagining of the provocative Picnic at Hanging Rock story will no doubt capture contemporary audiences across the U.S. With fantastic scripts, outstanding cast and bold editorial direction from Larysa Kondracki, Picnic at Hanging Rock is set to be a must-see series in 2018. We are thrilled to be working with Amazon Prime Video to bring this powerful drama to U.S. screens.”
