Martin Freeman to Star in New Crackle Original Drama

CULVER CITY: Crackle is building up its slate of original scripted content with the addition of Start Up, a new drama starring Martin Freeman.

The 10×1-hour drama heads into production this week in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The story explores what happens when a brilliant, yet controversial tech idea gets incubated on the wrong side of the tracks by three strangers who don’t necessarily fit the mold of tech entrepreneurs. It spotlights the high-stakes struggle of what one will do to reach ultimate success.

Freeman (Fargo, Sherlock) stars alongside Adam Brody (CHiPS, The League), Otmara Marrero (Graceland) and Edi Gathegi (The Blacklist, Twilight). The series is produced by Critical Content and Hollywood Gang Productions.

Start Up carries out our promise to continue our commitment to quality drama,” said Eric Berger, the general manager of Crackle and executive VP of Sony Pictures Television Digital Networks. “We are working with a top-notch team to produce a project that explores the motivations and complexities of creating a new venture, while walking a fine line between crime and legitimacy.”

“We couldn’t be more excited to work with the team at Crackle on this project,” added Critical Content’s president, Andrew Marcus.  “Ben Ketai has an amazing vision for this series and we are fortunate to have such a talented ensemble of actors to help bring this story to life.”
