LOS ANGELES: Insurrection Media and Keshet Studios are co-producing the paranormal drama The Dead Girls Detective Agency, based on the young-adult novel written by Suzy Cox.

The Dead Girls Detective Agency is a whodunit, coming-of-age love story about a young Manhattanite who wakes up in a glamorous hotel to discover that she’s dead, apparently in purgatory. Her only hope of passing to the other side may be in solving the mystery of her own murder with the help of others like herself.

The writing team of Jerica Lieberman and Molly Margraf (ABC’s Mistresses) are on board for the adaptation. Production begins this March. This initiative comes from a partnership between Insurrection and HarperCollins which sees key books optioned and developed into digital video and linear television series.

“Reaching global millennial audiences with engaging stories, on both traditional and digital platforms, is key to our ongoing strategy,” said Sebastian Burkhardt, the senior VP of digital and acquisitions for Keshet International. “The Dead Girls Detective Agency achieves exactly this by offering universally relatable themes and supernatural undertones. This marks the beginning of what Keshet intends to be a successful and ongoing relationship with Insurrection.”

“This fresh and scintillating story is perfect for millennial audiences; we’re exhilarated to be making the show with Keshet, Jerica and Molly,” said Jordanna Fraiberg, the head of development at Insurrection Media.

“We are thrilled to be expanding our reach into digital television programming with The Dead Girls Detective Agency,” commented Suzanne Murphy, the president and publisher of HarperCollins Children’s Books. “This strategic relationship with Insurrection allows us to share our authors’ content with young adult readers in a unique and accessible way.”
