Ioan Gruffudd (Horatio Hornblower, Forever, Fantastic Four) has been cast to play the leading role in Hoodlum Entertainment’s new Australian crime drama Harrow.

The Welsh actor will play the eponymous role of the brilliant and unorthodox forensic pathologist Dr. Daniel Harrow, whose total disregard for authority and his unfailing empathy for the dead help him solve even the most bizarre of cases. The ten-part series marks the first drama production for the Disney-owned ABC Studios International. ABC is on board as the Australian broadcaster, and Disney Media Distribution will handle the international rights.

Harrow is co-created by writer Stephen M. Irwin (Australia Day, Wake in Fright, Secrets & Lies) and producer Leigh McGrath (Australia Day, Secrets & Lies, Strange Calls).

Gruffudd said, “I am so excited to be bringing the complex and brilliant Dr. Dan Harrow to life! Looking forward to coming back to Queensland to work on this ambitious and exciting series!”

Hoodlum Entertainment’s co-founder and CEO, Tracey Robertson, said: “Ioan is a much-admired actor and will bring his tremendous talent and charisma to the central role of Dr. Daniel Harrow. I couldn’t think of anyone more perfect.”

Keli Lee, the managing director of international content and talent for ABC Studios International, added: “In Ioan Gruffudd, we have found the ideal star to play Dr. Daniel Harrow. Ioan is an incredibly talented and globally acclaimed actor and he brings a complex mix of genius, darkness, humor and charm to the role. We are excited to have him as the lead in our series as we begin pre-production on Harrow.”
