HBO Orders More City of God: The Fight Rages On

HBO has renewed City of God: The Fight Rages On for a second season after the series made its debut on August 25.

The show serves as a sequel to the 2002 film City of God, following the characters 20 years later. Wilson “Rocket” Rodrigues returns to the community when a young drug dealer’s release from prison puts the city in dispute again, and the residents end up trapped between drug dealers, militias and government authorities.

Their desire to break the cycle drives them to unite and confront their oppressors.

City of God: The Fight Rages On is produced by O2 Filmes and directed by Aly Muritiba, based on a script by Maíra Oliveira, Patricia Andrade and Paulo Lins. Producers are Andrea Barata Ribeiro and Fernando Meirelles on behalf of O2 Filmes. Cris Abi and Gustavo Gontijo are co-producers. Mariano Cesar, Anouk Aaron and Vanessa Miranda are executive producers on behalf of Warner Bros. Discovery.

The six-episode first season is airing new episodes every Sunday on HBO Latino and streaming on Max. The second episode premiered on September 1.
